Get to know Jim Cumming:

Jim Cumming hails from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and has been keeping tropical fish for over 65 years. Other than a fifteen-year sojourn into the world of killifish (his online name is ‘notho2000’) he has kept and presently keeps Central and South American cichlids, and currently devotes about one third of his 40 aquarium fish room to Madagascan cichlids and the Etroplus genus from India.

Jim has given presentations to over 150 cichlid and generalist aquarium societies throughout the US and Canada over the last 8 years, and has been invited to speak in Germany, Sweden, the UK and Australia.

COVID-19 certainly changed things, but he managed to give another dozen or so virtual presentations during 2020 and 2021. He will be speaking in person in Pittsburgh (May 20th), at The Keystone Clash in September (22nd to the 25th) and in France (September 30th) to present at the Association Francais Cichlid convention in Nancy. Jim has never turned down an invitation to speak other than for a conflict of dates.

Jim is presently Administrator of three Facebook groups, Madagascar Endangered Fishes, Cribroheros & Beyond, and Asian and Middle Eastern Cichlids. His personal Facebook page is devoted solely to fish and their conservation. Jim has had articles published in Amazonas, Cichlid News, Buntbarsche, and the Swedish Ciklid Bladet magazines. He is also an American Cichlid Association Speaker, as well as a Madagascan cichlid Species Specialist and speaker for the CARES Preservation program. His YouTube channel has over 700 videos and can be found under the name of 2000notho. He also has been actively involved in the local Aquarium Society of Winnipeg for over 50 years where he served as Program Chair, Journal Editor, and President. He enthusiastically looks forward to spreading the word on Malagasy cichlids, as well as Central, South American, and Indian cichlids, and on variety of other hobby-based topics wherever and whenever he can.
